A piper's role during a funeral service of any faith is extremely deep and magnanimous. As music is the universal communicator, the sound of the pipes is tremendously distinct and can evoke emotions from deep within. Through many years of performing at funerals, the following format is most suitable, and can be elaborated upon at the family's request.

  1. Piper plays as the funeral procession arrives at church, as the casket is taken into church, and guests enter.

  2. Piper plays as casket is taken to hearse and as guests return to their vehicles.

  3. Piper plays as guests gather at the cemetery.

  4. Piper to play Amazing Grace or requested tune after graveside benediction.

There are also many hymns suitable for the pipes. Some of which include: Holy, Holy, Holy; The Old Rugged Cross; The Water is Wide; Amazing Grace; Come We who Love God's Name; and Come Thou O Great Redeemer.
